From the very beginning of the Reaper’s series, I’ve been dying to get more Picnic. And after reading Em and Liam’s book, I was even more excited. His book did not disappoint. Picnic is older than the other guys, he’s a dad and he’s president of the Reaper’s MC, but he kick’s ass. I love him, love the book, and love the series!
London lives in the same town as all the bikers, but she doesn’t run with that crowd. She owns her own cleaning service and takes care of her cousin’s daughter, Jessica, as her own. The only way she’s connected to the Reaper’s is through her cleaning business. She clean’s most of the Reaper’s establishments. She has seen Reese ‘Picnic’ Hayes around, and even though she finds him extremely attractive, he’s sort of terrified her in a way.
Ever since Picnic’s wife died, he’s never wanted to settle back down. He’ll never have an old lady again, never have a steady girl. It’s just one night stands and club whores for him. No attachments. He won’t risk getting hurt like that again. London Armstrong is not the type of woman for him. She’s older than his normal girl, even though she’s a few years younger than him. Also, she’s not the type to just have fun with. She’s the type that would want to settle down. And he can’t go there.
She was too nice, too clean, and way the fuck to grown up. Ms. Armstrong was a regular citizen walking the straight and narrow, and she had no place in my world. She’d run off screaming in the darkness if I cut loose with her.
The more Picnic and London are thrown together, the more their attraction grows. London’s kid Jessica is trouble. And Picnic goes against his better judgment and helps her. This makes London ‘owe him’. Even though Picnic tells himself over and over again this is not the type of girl he should be with, he can’t help his desire for her. He hasn’t felt this way about any woman since his wife.
So much is going on in London’s life right now. She is a tough woman. She deals with her job, running a business all on her own. She takes care of a teenage girl with some issues and special needs. She’s dating a cop (ugh) and then there is Picnic interfering in her life. But with his interfering, she finds that he’s actually there for her more than anyone else. He’s trying to help her, be the shoulder she needs to lean on.
I loved the progression of their relationship. It wasn’t fast, it wasn’t easy, and it was by no means insta-love. But they did grow to care for one another. In a way Picnic thought he was no longer capable of. With everything going wrong in London’s life, for the first time in a long time, things just seemed right with Reese. He made things better for her. I liked the two of the together. They were good together.
That is, until everything changed. When the shit hits the fan in her life, London is forced to make a choice. A choice no one should have to make. A choice between the man she is falling for, and the girl who is like a daughter to her.
The only thing worse than destroying the man you care about is destroying him after he makes heartbreakingly beautiful love to you. I was still going to do it, though. I didn’t have a choice.
London didn’t feel like she even had a choice in the matter. It was what it was and she was just going to have to deal with the consequences.
Here is where the action really begins. It’s gritty and raw like a biker book should be. It’s also heartbreaking at times. And romantic at times. I loved that the hero and heroine were both a little older and more mature than the other couples in this series.
Picnic is the perfect combination of sexy, dominate, protective, sweet and tough. He’s a great father, friend and leader. There were a few things about London that irked me… if you’ve read the book you know the main thing I’m talking about. I can’t say I don’t get the choice she made. I could sympathize with her situation. Still- I didn’t like it. That being said, with her fierce determination and loyalty, she more than redeemed herself in my eyes.
I love a good second chance romance. I love a good biker book with a alpha hero and a kick ass heroine. This book had all of those things. The Reaper’s series is one of my favorite biker series. Joanna Wylde writes bikers in the best way- gritty and raw without being too much, and she gives them heart without making them pussies. Reaper’s Stand was a wonderful story of moving on from your past, finding love again and learning it’s okay to trust people and take a chance. Passionate, romantic, erotic and action packed, this was a 5 star read for me. And after that extended epilogue I have a feeling the best is yet to come! I can’t wait to read more of this series!!!
